This page (“Privacy Policy”) explains how The Dovetail Project (“the organization,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to respecting the privacy of its online visitors (“you” or “your”). This statement, which is part of the Terms of Use of this website, explains how and why we collect, use, share, and store information, including personal information, and covers our interactions with you when we receive or collect information from or about you, including when you visit our website, submit information to us, request information from us. When visitors use our website at www.thedovetailproject.org (“the Site”), they are using a service (the “Services”) provided by The Dovetail Project and agree to be bound by our Privacy Statement as it is modified from time to time and posted on this site. Before accessing, using, or interacting with the services we provide, you should carefully review the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy. By accepting our Privacy Policy, you are confirming that you have read and understand these terms, including how and why we use your information. If you don’t want us to collect or process your personal information in the ways described in this Privacy Policy, you should immediately terminate your use of the services and not otherwise provide any information. 


I. Information We Collect 

The Site collects two types of information: 1) personal information; and 2) nonpersonal information.  

Personal information is information that you voluntarily provide to us, such as your name, email address, mailing address, physical address, phone numbers, and information about your family members. We collect this information when you apply to take part in our programs, when you inquire about donating goods, or subscribing to our email updates. Personal information also includes information that you give to certain third parties, such as PayPal or Shopify, and which those third parties then transmit back to us.  

Nonpersonal information includes information that helps us to understand how people use the Site but are not, without more, information that allows us to personally identify you. The nonpersonal data that we collect includes internet protocol addresses, web browser versions and operating systems you use to access the site, and navigation and browsing data. We use technical means such as cookies, web beacons, tracking pixel, links, and other tracking technologies to gather this information. You may opt out of non-necessary cookies on our website. You cannot opt out of cookies that necessary for the Site to function. We may also use third party analytic tools such as Google Analytics, which may use their third-party cookies on our Site to collect nonpersonal statistical information. 


II. How We Use the Information 

Your personal information may be used by us for any legitimate organization purpose consistent with applicable laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, operating the Site, conducting our programming, responding to requests for information, and interacting with you in response to information that you submit to us. Personal information submitted voluntarily at the Site is used to match you to our services, accept donations (both monetary and in-kind), and deliver requested information to you. This information is stored on secured servers and kept as long as the user is subscribed to receive such information. 

Nonpersonal statistical information is used to measure site activity and improve the structure of our website and learn about the collective interests of the Site’s visitors. We also use nonpersonal information, such as analytics services like Google Analytics, to measure, analyze and report on access to and usage of the Site. 


III. How We Share or Disclose the Information 

We do not sell, trade or otherwise transfer or disclose your Personal Information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes without your prior consent. 

We will only disclose your Personal Information: (1) as described in this Privacy Policy; (2) with advance notice to you to obtain your consent; (3) in accordance with applicable data protection laws; or (4) in response to a court order. We may also disclose your Personal Information if we need to enforce our Terms of Use, this Privacy Policy or other agreements, or to protect our rights. 

We and you might disclose both Personal and Nonpersonal Information to our third-party service partners that we use to administer our programs and the Site. Those third parties include: Shopify, (an electronic commerce provider), Salesforce (a client relationship management provider), Squarespace (a web hosting provider), Donor Perfect (a donation management provider), PayPal (a donation management provider), Mailchimp (an email newsletter provider), Survey Monkey (a survey provider), Simple Text (text message communications), and Google (website analytic provider). If we transmit your information to those third parties, the terms of this Privacy Policy govern how we will do so. We take reasonable steps to ensure that our service providers and third-party vendors are obligated to reasonably protect your information on our behalf. If we become aware that a service provider or third-party vendor is using or disclosing information improperly, we will take commercially reasonable steps to end or correct such improper use or disclosure. 

If you directly provide personal or nonpersonal information to those third parties yourself, for example by following a link from the Site to the third party and then giving them your personal information, your giving of that information is subject to those providers’ privacy policies and terms of use, which might be different from our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party websites, and we encourage you to read those sites’ privacy policies to understand how they collect, use and share your information. 


IV. Security 

We strive to collect and store data in a manner that protects their confidentiality, recognizing that no data transmission is entirely secure. Although we seek to keep information in a secure environment to safeguard the confidentiality of users’ personal information, we cannot guarantee complete security. 


V. Privacy Protection for Children 

In compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, we do not knowingly permit anyone under the age of 13 to provide personal information through the Site. If we detect that somebody under the age of 13 has provided information to us, we will take appropriate steps to remove this information from our records. If you believe that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a person under 13, please inform us via the methods below in “Contact Us.” 


VII. Changes to the Privacy Policy 

This Privacy Policy is effective as of April 29, 2025. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any future changes will be posted on this page. We encourage you to return to this page from time to time to review our Policy for updates and changes. The updated Privacy Policy is effective when posted to the Site.
